The Steady State is a publication about prices, what they are, what they hide, and what they reveal about our society and its institutions. Every price is the product of an institutional arrangement that determines who can do what, on what terms. Most economic commentary treats prices as technical outputs of neutral machinery. The Steady State argues the opposite, that recovering the political content of what is presented as engineering is the precondition for understanding the dynamics of prices.
